MORNING CLASSES

9am-10am Choir / Teacher: Emily Schmitz / Grades 7-12

This choir class will focus on group singing with healthy musical tone. At each rehearsal, we will do fun group warm ups, sharpen our basic music theory skills, and sing music together. Each student will be placed in a voice part that best suits their range and voice type. No prior experience needed, just a desire to sing with friends and grow as a musician!

10am - 11am Foundations in Japanese Language and Culture / Teacher: Carolyn Knecht / Grades 7-12

Welcome to Japan! This class is an integrated course in Japanese language and culture, run like a Japanese classroom. As we begin learning the three writing systems of the language, we will enter our cultural studies in Ancient Japan, reading excerpts from books written during the Heian Period and studying folktales full of heroes, ghosts, and monsters. As we progress through our Japanese language book Genki I, we will continue through history paired with cultural concepts, through the World Wars and finishing in modern Japan. Language studies will be aimed at mastering the writing systems and nailing our vocab; and our cultural studies will cover topics like Shintoism, Isolationism, realities of war, mannerisms, food, kawaii culture, anime, day-in-the-lives, art, and origami.

11am - 12 pm Spanish 1 / Teacher: Damaris Kirkpatrick / Grades 7-12

God gave man the gift of language from the beginning, and it displays order and design. It is important to learn Spanish as it is the second most widely spoken language in the world, and this class will prepare you to have literacy, oral fluency, and proficiency. Through many exercises, helpful charts and tables, writing assignments, and much practice, you will progress in their mastery of Spanish. You will also memorize Scripture, vocabulary, and have ample opportunities for conversation.

AFTERNOON CLASSES

12:30 - 2pm/ Cooking Essentials / Teacher: Leah Halterman / Grades 7-12

In this semester long course we will focus on one foundational culinary skill per week as students are introduced to essential techniques used in home-cooking. Students will develop a respect for mise en place, and grow in confidence in their knife skills, cooking methods, basic sauces and presentation while learning to work efficiently and cleanly in the kitchen. Cooking is an art and more than reading recipes, students will learn to study the techniques of this delicious art.

2026 Fall Semester only

Time TBD / MCA Legislature / Teacher: Leah Halterman / Grades 7-12

‍This class will focus on bill writing and the legislative process. Over the course of the semester students will practice parliamentary procedures using mock bills as well as write their own bills that they will defend. This class will also walk them through the homework for Teen Pact Idaho in March.
