Overview
History
Geography is crucial to a deeper understanding of history. Students will learn to draw the world, identify countries and cities, and give reports on countries (environment, culture, food, religion, etc.), in their study of World History through cartography. We will also lay the groundwork for American History in the middle school years by studying government.
Science
Students will grow in creativity and wonder as they apply critical thinking skills to their Science Fair projects, and use the scientific method to conduct experiments and solve problems. They will enjoy learning about Life Science, and explore the wonders of God’s creation through Earth Science.
Logic
Fallacy Detective and Thinking Toolbox will lead into Mock Trial and Traditional Logic I. Students will build their reasoning skills so they can think critically, present a clear case, and argue carefully and wisely.
Composition
In composition, students will master the fundamentals of persuasive writing using Lost Tools of Writing, and explore creative writing. This subject will include conversations about the literature they are reading.
Art/History
Our middle schoolers will begin cultivating an appreciation for beauty as they work with different art mediums.
Math U See:
Fractions/Decimals
Prealgebra
Students will have a breakout session in the morning and will attend the math level that they are currently at, regardless of age or grade.
Anthology
Each year students will have an anthology that they will add grade and subject specific items to: maps, definitions, science drawings, art, quotes and more. We want them to walk away with some great memories and information to pull from or reflect on later in life.
Projects
Science Fair:
Science fairs are events where students present independent research projects, offering a platform to apply scientific practices and engineering skills outside the classroom. This helps students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills while exploring topics of personal interest.
Mock Trial:
Through participation in mock trial students are given a hands-on opportunity to examine legal processes and issues, while they develop important critical thinking and presentation skills through a hypothetical legal case. In a real courtroom, before a judge and jury, teams try their cases – from opening statements, through direct and cross-examination, to closing arguments. Each team has its own attorneys and witnesses and will present both sides of the case.
